2015 Galiano Literary Festival “Announcing”

GALIANO ISLAND BOOKS TO HOST SIXTH ANNUAL GALIANO LITERARY FESTIVAL

The SIXTH ANNUAL Galiano Literary Festival, to be held February 20 to 22 2015 offers booklovers a unique opportunity to hear and get to know on a personal level, some of B.C.s and Canada’s most notable and talked-about writers in a program featuring a unique blend of readings, workshops, panels and informal get-togethers, all in the beautiful surroundings of Galiano Island’s Galiano Oceanfront Inn.

The Festival is preceded on Friday, February 20 by workshops on fiction writing and poetry by authors Audrey Thomas, Bill Gaston and Kate Braid. That evening the Festival kicks off with a welcome reception giving booklovers a chance to rub elbows with the festival’s authors in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.

Saturday opens with two panel sessions. The first features authors whose works aim at raising our awareness and educating us about environmental concerns. The second provides a unique glimpse of the early contacts between First Nations people and Europeans in the Gulf Islands and Vancouver as seen through the eyes of their descendants in art and words.

The rest of Saturday and Sunday are devoted to a blend of readings and times for informal conversations with the over 25 authors participating in this year’s Festival including George Bowering, Spider Robinson, Elizabeth May, John Valliant, Bill Gaston, Michael Christie, Ian McAllister, Arno Kopecky, and Chris Czajkowski.

Saturday night’s Authors’ dinner will feature a talk by C.C. Humphreys, co-hosted by the Galiano Literary Festival and Bard on the Beach. Chris will be talking about the process of turning his book, Shakespeare’s Rebel into a stage play which will have it’ s world premiere this summer at Bard on the Beach. His comments are certain to prove fascinating to lovers of the book and stage alike.

The Festival is held at the beautiful Galiano Oceanfront Inn (www.galianoinn.com), a world-class resort just steps from the Galiano Ferry Terminal and right next door to Galiano Island Books. The Inn also offers nearby areas for lovers of the seashore and the forest alike to explore and enjoy.
